Gordonvale - Atherton (Gilles) Road
Embankment Stabilisation Works
Starting Monday 26 November
Main Roads wishes to advise motorists that embankment stabilisation works will start on Monday 26 November on a 40m section of the Gordonvale
The works include the replacement and installation of rock gabions (rock filled wire baskets) used to support the embankment. Some excavation work may be required.
Works will be done Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm and Saturday from 7am to 1pm. Traffic will be reduced to 60km and one lane under the direction of traffic controllers or traffic signals at night. Expect delays up to 15 minutes.
Main Roads asks motorists to observe roadwork signage, speed limits and the direction of traffic controllers during the works for the safety of themselves and the road workers.

Kennedy Highway– Mt Garnet to The Lynd (Three Ways)
Road Improvement Works Begin 16 July 2007
The Department of Main Roads wishes to advise motorists that road improvement works on the Kennedy Highway between Mt Garnet and The Lynd (Three Ways) begin Monday 16 July and will continue for about 6 months with completion expected January 2008, weather permitting. The works will start with widening the Oakey and Spring Creek bridges and then progressively widening and sealing to an 8m width a total of 44kms of road on various sections.
Works will be carried out, on one section at a time, between 7am to 5pm weekdays under the control of traffic controllers and/or traffic lights with a reduced speed limit of 60km/h through the site. Traffic lights will be used from 5pm to 7am when required.
Main Roads asks motorists to factor delay time into their travel plans, observe road works signage, obey the directions of traffic controllers and drive carefully through the work site for the safety of themselves and the road workers.

Bruce Hwy (Ingham - Innisfail)
El Arish to Digger Ck
Pavement Improvement Works
Start Monday 19 November
Main Roads wishes to advise motorists that pavement improvement works will start on a 1.2km section of the Bruce Hwy from El Arish to Digger Ck on Monday 19 November.
Works will be carried out between 6am and 6pm with a speed limit of 40km through the worksite with completion expected end of November, weather permitting.
Traffic delays of up to 15 minutes are expected with traffic reduced to one lane and under the control of traffic controllers.

Caravonica Roundabout Upgrade
Installation of Left Turn Lane
Captain Cook Hwy
Starts Monday 17 September
The Department of Main Roads wishes to advise motorists that the second stage of works to upgrade the Caravonica Roundabout will start Monday 17 September and are expected to be completed end of November, weather permitting.
A new separate left turn lane for traffic wishing to travel north onto the Captain Cook Highway from the Cairns Western Arterial Road is being installed to ease congestion at the roundabout. Traffic turning left will then be able to merge onto the highway north of the roundabout.
The majority of the works will be undertaken without disruption to traffic.
A reduction to one lane and minor traffic delays can be expected during the final stages.
Works will be carried out between 6.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday with a reduced speed of 60km through the work site.
CEC Constructions have been contracted by Main Roads to carry out the works.

Kennedy Hwy (Kuranda
Intersection Safety Works
Starting Monday 17 September
The Department of Main Roads wishes to advise motorists that works to improve the safety at three intersections on the Kennedy Hwy between Kuranda and Mareeba will start on Monday 17 September. Motorists may experience traffic delays of up to 15 minutes until completion of works at the end of November, weather permitting.
Mareeba Shire Council are contracted to carry out the works on behalf of Main Roads with works starting at the Davies Creek Rd intersection. Work at Clohesy River Rd and Koah Rd intersections will follow.
The safety works include road widening, installation of right/left turn lanes from the Kennedy Hwy, road surfacing and linemarking.
Works will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday with a reduced speed through the work site and under the direction of traffic controllers. Works may also be carried out on weekends.

Outside of the above hours, the section between Belson Rd and Merragallan Rd, will be open to traffic with a speed limit of 60km until the works are completed.
