Southern Region

Keyword or Phrase

The Southern Region of the Atherton Tablelands is a Waterfall wonderland.

As well as many beautiful waterfalls, this region is also the heart of dairy country, with vistas of lush green hills interspersed with pockets of rainforest.

Traveling south from Malanda is the tiny township of Tarzali. From Tarzali you can visit the award winning gardens of Hillside Eden, or catch a North Qld Perch at Tarzali Lakes.

A short drive from Tarzali brings you to Millaa Millaa township. Many picturesque waterfalls can be found within a 30 minute drive of Millaa Millaa. Explore the town, then visit the famous "Waterfall Circuit".

Head back to Millaa Millaa, from there you can travel to Ravenshoe.

There are two routes from Millaa Millaa to Ravenshoe. The scenic route takes you along the old Palmerston Highway, and comes out just this side of Ravenshoe, near the windfarms. This road is not suitable for caravans.

The other route, is across to the Lookout, and joins up with the Atherton/Ravenshoe Road. Both drives are very pretty.

The timber town of Ravenshoe is Queenslands highest town. Take time to have a look at the Ravenshoe Visitors centre and Nganyaji Interpretive Centre, to find out more about the interesting history of the area, and get directions to the Millstream Falls, which are not far from here.
