Transport to the Tablelands

Your best option for transport to the Tablelands is to hire a car for the length of your stay. There are many car hire companies based in Cairns and also located at the Cairns Airport for your convenience. Prices start at $14 per day for a older car (please check on the condition of vehicle before hiring) but the average price per day is about $45. You do not need to hire a 4WD to traverse the Atherton Tablelands as 99% of the roads are bitumen. If you are looking at going out to Chillagoe or travel on any unsealed roads, then yes, you will need to hire one, but in all other cases, conventional vehicles are more than suitable.

Please Note: There is no transport services between the towns of Atherton, Yungaburra, Malanda, Kairi, Tinaroo or Millaa Millaa. A taxi service is available but can work out to be quite expensive.
