Weather & what to bring

Winter on the Atherton Tablelands is between June and August with temperatures ranging from 5 degrees at night to 22 degrees during the day. We suggest that you bring comfortable slacks or long pants/jeans and a jacket for night time and comfy shorts or long pants and shirts for day time use and walking.

Summer is between December and March with temperatures ranging from 17 degrees during the night to 33 degrees during the day. People generally wear singlets, t-shirts and shorts during the day and light pants or long shorts, and cool shirts/blouses during the night. The humidity is much lower on the Tablelands than in the Cairns and coastal areas. Temps can vary up to 8 degrees cooler than the coaster area.

Please ensure that you bring your hats, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes and cameras. If you are travelling to the outback part of the Tablelands, please make sure you have medication scripts filled in before you travel as there are normally no chemists located in the smaller towns. Atherton is the last town with chemists along the Savannah Way to Karumba.
