National Parks/Wet Tropics
North Queensland is lucky enough to have many Wet Tropic areas, National Parks and State Forests, many of which are World Heritage Listed. With stunning scenery and wildlife, many parks feature bushwalks, drives and picnic areas. The diverse scenery includes mountain ranges, fast flowing streams, waterfalls, dense forests and gorges.
The best time to visit the Wet Tropic area is between April and November when the temperatures are fairly mild. Wet season, December to March, tends to be very wet and makes visiting the rainforest difficult. Saying that, if you dont mind walking through humid rainforest and getting wet, the rainforest is stunningly beautiful and fresh and waterfalls flowing to their fullest.
NOTE: We do make a suggestion that if you are walking through rainforest/wet tropics during the wet, that you take sachets of salt, or effective insect repellent with you for leeches.
