Whether you ride for the fun of it, or push yourself to the limit the Atherton Tablelands has something for everyone. You’ll discover the rolling, paved country roads have little traffic, the mild temperatures and the scenic rides interconnected by quaint villages just waiting to be explored.

If mountain biking is more your speed the Atherton Tablelands is your ultimate one stop destination with mountains to conquer, rolling fire roads and single track to suit every rider level.

 

Tropic Rides

Tropic Rides offers mountain bike shuttles, tours and bike hire to all mountain bike parks in the North Queensland region including Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park; Davies Creek Mountain Bike Park; Smithfield Mountain Bike Park and the Cassowary Coast.

Davies Creek Mountain Bike Park

A mixture of fire-road and singletrack, this loop can be ridden in its entirety or in sections. No real technical challenges but riders will need a basic level of fitness to handle the climbs. Some scenic sections towards the back of the track - make sure you take a minute to enjoy.

Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park

This network of mountain bike trails in the Herberton Range is accessed from the northern entrance to the Herberton Range Ridge road. Over 60klms of trails meander through an open forest of gums, bloodwoods, mahoganys, she-oaks, grasstrees and cycads. Some of the trails pass former forestry experimental plots of teak, blackbutt and tallowwood trees. These single-track trails are purpose-built for mountain bike riding.

Backing on the State forest, the award winning BIG4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park is a peaceful park with a range of accommodation & facilities to suit all requirements. Come & enjoy our beautiful gardens, playground, swimming pool & Balinese cabana. Free wireless internet access is available for all guests.

 

  • Depart Cairns to Mareeba via the Kuranda Range Road which is just north of Cairns CBD and climbs the coastal range to the cultural rainforest village of Kuranda, home to the famous Kuranda Markets and a host of other attractions, shops and restaurants.
  • Near Mareeba is the Davies Creek Mountain Bike Park. This natural trail has been tweaked slightly to make it mountain bike friendly, but there are no manufactured obstacles as the aim is for riders to simply enjoy their surroundings. Trails can be ridden in their entirety or in sections with travel clockwise only. They are fast and flowing with no real technical challenges, however, riders will need a decent level of fitness to negotiate the climbs. There are six easy sections from 500m to 4km and four intermediate sections from 1km to 2km.
  • After experiencing the trails, spend the afternoon in Mareeba – a multi-cultural district rich in wildlife, museums, coffee and wine, and clear blue skies.
  • 30 minutes south of Mareeba is the town of Atherton and BIG4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park, located close to the Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park and the ideal base to explore the mountain bike trails and has purpose built facilities to clean, maintain and wash down your bike.
  • Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park has an exciting network of some 55km of trails, located just 2km from Atherton’s Main Street at the top of Rifle Range Road. This network of mountain bike trails in the Herberton Range is accessed from the northern entrance to the Herberton Range Ridge road.
