Beautiful Millaa Millaa, the ‘Village in the Mist’, is the gateway to the Southern Tablelands. At 873 metres above sea level, the town nestles in emerald hills surrounded by diary farms and a circuit of waterfalls. Its lookout presents the most expansive views in the area and the image of Millaa Millaa Falls has become an icon of the region.
The picturesque waterfalls have been attraction visitors to the Atherton Tablelands for over a century. Just south of Millaa Millaa township at The Falls Teahouse, the waterfall circuit begins here at Teresa Creek Road, encompassing Millaa Millaa Falls, Zillie and Elinjaa Falls.
Continue a 10klms from Millaa Millaa along the Palmerston Highway towards Ravenshoe to the Pepina Falls. Towards Innisfail at Junction Road, follow the signs left to Munaglli Falls – the highest waterfall on the Atherton Tablelands. The road continues to Wooroonooran National Park, home to Tcaupala and Nandroya Falls.
Millaa Millaa is the gateway to the wilderness walking tracks Misty Mountain Trails, Australia’s first network of long distance walking trails in high altitude rainforest. Over 130 kilometres of tracks have been constructed under a unique partnership between the region’s shires, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), the land’s Traditional Owners, and volunteers from Conservation Volunteers Australia. One of the most superb vistas in the region unfolds from the Millaa Millaa Lookout.
