Kuranda Roots Festival 2021
July 16 - July 18
The longest running roots reggae festival in Far North Queensland is back, presented by Rudekat Records (Island Vibe Festival) and Dreadagade (Bush Week). Kuranda Roots Festival will take place from July 16-18 at Kanjini located at the foot of lush Emerald Creek Falls, on Buluwai Country in Far North Queensland.
Amplifying First Nations voices, culture and connecting with country will be at the forefront of this year’s event. As well as hosting a mad selection of live acts including OKA, Solua, The 4’20 Sound, Koahlition, DancingWater, Rikaela, R.E.B, Water Streets (and many more to be announced) there will be an exciting range of workshops presented by the Buluwai and Djabugay Bama (original people of the Kuranda area). From fire stick making, traditional rainforest bayus (huts), weaving, spear throwing and traditional dance – there will be many opportunities to learn and culturally participate with the traditional owners.
Kanjini is a breathtaking site at the base of the Emerald Creek Falls, approximately 35km from Kuranda Village and 15 minutes from Mareeba. Emerald Creek tumbles out of the rainforest mountains of the great dividing range and into the sclerophyll and savannah landscape below. This is a bio-diversity hot-spot of extremely high ecological & cultural importance. STRICTLY NO DOGS OR PETS. We urge everyone to respect the land and take all waste away with them. We will be running bush re-gen around the festival site, so in addition to leaving no negative trace, we intend to leave a positive impact on the land. Kuranda Roots is encouraging an Alcohol & Drug Free/family friendly event out of respect for the Buluwai/Djabugay elders in attendance.
There will be a market village with delicious food and craft stalls.
