The Atherton Tablelands are a wonderful place to go over the Christmas holidays with plenty of things to do and see.
Being such a natural wonderland all the scenic spots are open, including Christmas Day and most other attractions are open over the holiday season and only close on the day itself.
If you have visiting family and friends on Christmas Day take them for a swim in one of the many waterfall pools or lakes in the region.
Millaa Millaa Falls are especially beautiful with cool water for a sultry summer day and lots of grass to picnic on. Malanda Falls has its own man-made swimming pool and is set in beautiful rainforest.
If you like lake swimming try Lakes Barrine or Eacham while Davies Creek National Park has lots of rock pools to cool off in.
If swimming’s not your thing, enjoy walking round these beauty hot spots. There are lots of trails through rainforest to walk off Christmas dinner. All the parks have a range of tracks from easy to difficult.
Or go in search of Mother Nature at the platypus hide near Yungaburra or a visit the amazing fig trees in the vicinity.

Historic Village Herberton is open every day except Christmas Day and will keep all generations happy and busy.
The Crystal Caves in Atherton are open with the exception of December 25 and 26 and January 1. Kids of all ages will enjoy this amazing maze of tunnels and caverns filled with geological treasures.
In Kuranda the animal kingdoms of Birdworld and the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary will entertain your visitors all holiday except for Christmas Day. While you are there drop into Rainforestation for the trifecta of mini zoo, cultural experience and jungle tour on an amphibious duck.
If a coffee or a cuppa is your thing the teahouse at Lake Barrine is open all festive season with the exception of Christmas Day. Ditto for Coffee Works in Mareeba.
If your gang really want to relax, head to Innot Hot Springs for a dip in their pools. Out west between Ravenshoe and Mt Garnet there are six pools to try with different temperatures. Just the place to unwind after a busy Christmas.
