Hallorans Hill Conservation Park
Right in the heart of the township of Atherton lies Hallorans Hill Conservation Park. To get to the top of Hallorans Hill, you can either walk a 1.4km track or drive to the car park at the top of the hill. The adjoining council park provides another walking track with interpretative signs and a picnic area with tables, barbecues, toilet and a playground.
Kahlpahlim Rock
Seeking a bit more adventure on your trip to the Atherton Tablelands? Head out to Mareeba for an epic hike up to Kahlpahlim Rock, or Lamb’s Head. Leave early to make it up there for sunrise, and expect around four to five hours to complete this spectacular 18km hike.
Mt Bartle Frere
Queensland’s highest peak stands at 1622m and it has two trailheads you can choose to leave from, Eastern from Josephine Falls or Western from Topaz. Both including a number of routes through dense World Heritage rainforest, over boulders and across mossy creeks, rewarding you with fantastic views over the Atherton Tablelands all the way to the coast.
Make sure to check the weather forecast when planning this 15km hike as the summit is only visible 5-10% of the year.
Jumrum Creek Walk
There are four short walks at the picturesque Jumrum Creek which you can enjoy individually or on a two-hour circuit. All leave from the Kuranda Visitor Information Centre and are perfect to take a little break from the bustling life nearby at Kuranda Village, surrounding you with bird song and the sound of cascading water instead.
Emerald Creek
The dry, rocky landscape at Emerald Creek provides a stark contrast to the tropical rainforest terrain, featuring eucalypt-dominant forests and beautiful rock formations. Enjoy a picnic in the day-use area and cool down in the nearby creek after hiking the moderate 1.9km track to the lookout for gorgeous views over the falls and surroundings.
